Why Getting My Picture Taken with My Dog Became the Best Business Decision

I never expected that a photo with my dog would become my go-to professional headshot—but here we are, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Getting my picture taken with my dog started as a fun idea. My Mom’s actually after she entered to win a session with a local photographer. I wanted to capture our bond—just a personal keepsake. But when I saw the results, I realized something important: this wasn’t just a cute photo. It was me. It felt authentic, warm, and real in a way traditional headshots never did.

Funny story: During the shoot you can change outfits add props etc. when we came out. Chris said he’s never had someone show up to a shoot in August wearing Fall colors, a long sleeve jacket and heels. Chris meet Katie fashionista an over prepared, did my research kind of gal. I wanted to color coordinate with the furniture and my pop.

It’s More Than Just a Photo

When you include your dog in a professional portrait, you’re doing more than adding a furry friend to the frame—you’re telling a story. You're showing your personality, your values, and a sense of balance between life and work. People relate to that. It breaks down walls and invites connection.

The Unexpected Business Perks

Using that photo as part of my professional brand has been surprisingly powerful. Clients, colleagues, and even complete strangers often comment on it. It sparks conversations, creates a sense of familiarity, and sets the tone for working together. It shows I’m approachable, grounded, and maybe just a little more human than the average polished LinkedIn photo.

Why I Love It

I love that my dog is part of my story—personally and professionally. The photo reminds me to stay true to myself in all parts of life, and to lead with warmth and authenticity in business.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If your dog is part of your world, why not let them shine with you? You might be surprised how much that one photo can represent—about your life, your brand, and your values.

Plus, let’s be honest… dogs make everything better. Even business headshots. 🐾📸
