How Leawoof Doxies Was Born — And Why You Should Join Us
We won’t bite.
A little over a year ago, I stumbled across (or maybe was kindly invited to) a dachshund meetup somewhere in North KC. If you know me at all, you know I don’t do things halfway—so naturally, I dove in headfirst. I joined the Facebook groups, followed the pages, liked the posts, and shared every cute event flyer I could find.
But as much as I loved the community, my heart would sink just a little every time we missed an event by a day or a weekend—so close, yet too late. What I really wanted was something more regular, more open, and just a little easier to count on.
Enter: Leawoof Doxies
That’s when I decided to create Leawoof Doxies—a casual, inclusive meetup for dachshunds and small dogs (and their humans, of course). No exclusivity, no complex RSVP system, just good old-fashioned Sunday mornings with a pack of happy pups.
We meet at 9 a.m. every Sunday at Leawoof Park (Leawood Dog Park). It’s easy, relaxed, and consistent—except when the weather’s awful, it's a major U.S. holiday, or… well, we accidentally oversleep. Hey, we’re only human.
What to Expect
Expect a doxie (or twelve) to greet you, probably with enthusiastic barks. Expect friendly faces, wagging tails, and a welcoming vibe whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth. It’s not just a meetup—it’s a little community built on shared love for our short-legged companions and a desire to connect.
So if you’re looking for a place where your small dog can run, play, and socialize (and you can too), come join us. Spread the word. Bring your pup. And don’t be surprised if you find yourself looking forward to Sunday mornings as much as we do.
